Please take a moment and send whatever you can to the Armenian Bone Marrow Registry (ABMR) to register each person there is a fee for maintaining a national registry Moreover take the time to register as we have in our communities when we have the sample drives. it is no longer by blood, it is a simple swab of the mouth you could save a fellow Hye. Some of you with mix bloodlines have asked whether you would match and the answer is you never know until you register. Esteem Attorney Mark Geragos is our President and chief fundraiser, the walk a thon and events at his home are the best. write that check NOW!!! Or register your self as a donor, if our Pope Karekin II can do it, YOU CAN TOO!!!
For many months now, my family and I have been working hard to increase the number of registrants in the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry (ABMDR). We have held bone marrow drives here and in Armenia, and almost 4,000 Armenians have signed up to join the Registry. This is encouraging news to my 52-year-old mother, Irene Hamptian Katrandjian, of Englewood, NJ, who has non-Hodgkins lymphoma. She is waiting to find a match from an unrelated donor in order to proceed with a life-saving stem cell transplant – something she must have done in the next four months, when the chemotherapy treatment she is undergoing now will become too toxic for her system to handle.
Unfortunately, a large number of those Armenians who were recently swabbed for HLA-typing have not been entered into the Registry because the ABMDR does not have the funds to process their samples – each sample costs $50 to enter into the registry.
At this time, there are approximately 50 Armenians in the United States searching for matches. Each has a greater chance of finding a successful match among donors of Armenian ethnicity than among those in the general population. It is therefore critically important that the Registry include all of the potential donors we have recruited.
For Irene and others waiting for matches, the need is incredibly urgent. Please consider making a donation to the ABMDR as soon as possible. No amount is too small, and 100% of the money we raise will go directly to the processing of the samples.
Please make your tax-deductible donation to the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry and put ‘Irene’ in the memo. Send to:
